InkGestures FAQ 1. Does
InkGestures require a Tablet PC?
Yes. You can only install InkGestures on a Tablet PC because
the recognition engine that the program uses is only available
on the Tablet PC platform.
2. What languages does InkGestures support?
Currently InkGestures only supports English. We are
committed to developing versions for other
languages.
3. How can I purchase InkGestures?
First, download the fully-functioning
InkGestures Addin 30-day trial. That way you can be sure
that you have all the prerequisites and that InkGestures will
run properly. When you decide to purchase InkGestures, please
visit our online store. After you
purchase InkGestures you will receive a Registration Key that
you can use to unlock and register InkGestures.
4. Why can't InkGestures recognize one or more of my
gestures?
We are continually improving the gesture recognition in
InkGestures. If you are having difficulty with one or more
gestures, try viewing the videos and
seeing how the gestures can be drawn successfully. Try drawing
the gestures as closely as possible to the way they are shown in
the videos.
One tip that often improves the gesture
recognition is to increase the zoom factor of the
page. Several of the gestures are only recognized if
they fall within specific ranges around a document's
characters, so by increasing the size of the
displayed text (by increasing the zoom factor),
InkGestures is often better able to calculate the
placement of gestures in relation to the text.
5. Can I show you how I draw my gestures?
Yes. You can enable gesture logging which will save all drawn
gestures to a file. You can then email the file to
support@jumpingminds.com.
6. After installing InkGestures I don't see
the "Start Gesturing" button in the Tools menu. What
do I need to do?
InkGestures is an Addin for Microsoft Word 2003 and
as such requires the use of DLLs provided by
Microsoft Office. These are collectively known as
the Office Primary Interop Assemblies. If the DLLs are not installed
properly, then InkGestures will not function
properly.
There are a couple different ways to ensure that the
DLLs are installed on your system, however, the
easiest method is to download them directly from
Microsoft at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3c9a983a-ac14-4125-8ba0-d36d67e0f4ad&DisplayLang=en
Note: When you download and launch the install
program at this link, no windows will appear. The
install process is silent.
If this does not repair the problem, please run the
SystemState.exe diagnostics utility as outlined in
FAQ #8.
7. After installing InkGestures I see the
"Start Gesturing" button in the Tools menu, but when
I click on it nothing happens. What do I need to do?
Please run and email us the Report generated by
the SystemState.exe utility as outlined in FAQ #8.
Also, in the folder in which you installed InkGestures
(typically this is
C:\Program Files\JumpingMinds InkGestures), there
will be a file called InkGestures.log. If you email
us this file at support@jumpingminds.com, we'll
better be able to determine what the problem might
be.
8. How do I use the SystemState.exe
diagnostics utility?
The SystemState.exe utility generates a Report that
indicates which files are installed on your system.
It is useful for determining which DLLs--if any--are
needed in order to get InkGestures working.
The SystemState program is located in
the directory in which you installed InkGestures,
such as C:\Program
Files\JumpingMinds InkGestures. To use
SystemState follow these steps:
1. From the Start menu, select "My Computer."
2. Navigate to the folder where you installed
InkGestures, such as
C:\Program Files\JumpingMinds InkGestures.
3. Launch SystemState.exe in the InkGestures folder.
4. A window will appear that is titled "InkGestures
System State."
5. Click on the "Run Report" button.
6. A report will be generated. This may take several
minutes. Please wait until the Report is complete.
7. Save the Report to disc by clicking the Save
Report button.
8. Please email the saved report to
support@jumpingminds.com.
9. Is Office 2007 supported?
Not at this time. A version of InkGestures specially
designed for Office 2007's new user interface
features will be available after the consumer launch
of Office 2007.
