JumpingMinds InkGestures Add-in v1.3
December 19, 2006
OVERVIEW
InkGestures is an Add-in for Microsoft Office 2003
that provides pen-based editing support within
Microsoft Word and Outlook*.
* To enable pen-based editing gestures in Outlook,
Microsoft Word must be enabled as Outlook's email
editor.
INSTALLING
To install JumpingMinds InkGestures Add-in follow
these steps:
1. Uninstall any current version of InkGestures
Add-in by following the instructions in the section
"Uninstalling."
2. Exit all instances of Microsoft Word as well as
exit Outlook.
3. Run InkGesturesSetup1_3.msi and follow the
instructions.
USING INKGESTURES
1. Launch Microsoft Word.
2. Open a document to edit with the ink gestures.
3. Enable the ink gestures by either selecting the
"Enable Gestures" menu item in the "Tools" menu or
clicking on the "Enable Gestures" button in the "Ink
Annotations" command bar. If the "Ink Annotations"
command bar is not visible, you can force the
command bar to appear by selecting View | Toolbars |
Ink Annotations.
4. Once the Enable Gestures is selected, the cursor
will convert to a red dot.
5. Try an editing gesture: Draw a single horizontal
line under a word in the document with the pen or
mouse. Do not draw the line too far below the text.
It is OK to overlap the line with the word, however.
6. The gesture will be recognized approximately a
second after you finish drawing the line and lift
the pen or release the left mouse button (if you're
using the mouse).
7. The ink should now disappear and the word should
be replaced by an underlined word.
8. Try drawing the line once again, this time under
the underlined word.
9. The word should be restored to its normal state.
There are 20+ gestures supported in InkGestures
Add-in. For a list of the supported gestured select
"Ink Gestures Help" in the "Help" menu. Refer to the
external help file for a more complete description
of each of the gestures.
Tip: If you are having trouble with one of the
gestures, try drawing the gesture a little higher or
lower. It also may help to make the displayed font
larger; try increasing the zoom factor.

ERRATA
Known problems in this version:
1. Undo does not always fully undo last pen-based
operation. Workaround: Sometimes repeating an undo
gesture will fix the problem. Alternatively, try the
Edit | Undo menu command.
2. InkGestures Add-in currently only works on Tablet
PCs with the English language recognizer installed.
3. The Tablet Input Panel button may appear in the
document when in gesture mode.
4. Switching from full screen in portrait mode to
landscape mode while Editing Gestures mode is
enabled may prevent the rightmost part of the window
from repainting correctly.
5. If a selection is much larger than the size of
the display, gesture operations (such as deselect)
may fail. For instance, if you select all the text
in a large document, you may not be able to deselect
the text by tapping outside of the selection.
6. Sometimes ink strokes are partially erased while
being drawn. Even though the strokes may not appear,
they are being recognized properly.
7. When Microsoft Word is busy (such as
re-paginating a large document) you may not be able
to
draw any gestures.
8. If enabled, the gesture feedback icons may stop
appearing. Temporarily activating another window or
restarting Word may solve the problem.
Note: Office 2007 is not currently
supported by InkGestures v1.3.
